Statement of Intent

 Statement of Intent

How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief?

Product 1

For my first media product, I will create a magazine cover and contents page featuring a Hip-Hop duo,2souls, further expanding the representation of diverse artists within my magazine. The duo will be featured in a dynamic, high-energy photoshoot, with bright lighting, using a long shot to encapsulate the clothes and style, reflecting a RnB aesthetic. Through media language, I will use bold typography and a visually striking layout, across both media texts, to differentiate their style from Micah’s, showcasing the variety within genres. By including articles about their latest projects, pictures from the photoshoot, and their journey as independent artists, I will appeal to my audience’s interest in discovering new talent. Audience engagement will also be encouraged through interactive elements, such as QR codes and exclusive online interview teasers, reinforcing digital convergence. I also have created a challenge that also links to the website, involving the audience to also engage in the social media platforms. By linking my magazine with my website, I will create a multi-platform brand that reflects real-world industry practices, ensuring that my production meets the requirements of the chosen brief.

Product 2

For my second media product, I will be creating a magazine cover and contents page featuring Micah, a black emerging R&B singer. To engage my target audience of 15-34-year-olds, I will use media language effectively by incorporating conventions of magazines, such as a bold masthead called ‘Tuned In’, cover lines which entice the audience and a colour scheme that reflects the genre’s aesthetics. The imagery will be a mid-shot of Micah, emphasizing his presence and personal brand, with a confident pose with an instrument, and direct eye contact to create a connection with the audience. The lighting and composition will reflect the smooth and stylish aesthetic of R&B culture. In terms of representation, I will challenge stereotypical portrayals of Black artists by presenting Micah as a rising, talented and successful musician, focusing on his journey to success rather than reinforcing negative stereotypes often associated with hip-hop and R&B culture. The content will celebrate his achievements and personal story. To appeal to my audience, I will use engaging language and exclusive content, such as a giveaway promoted on my website, to encourage participation. By applying industry conventions inspired by magazines like NME, I will ensure that my magazine aligns with professional standards and appeals to both music fans and industry professionals.

How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production?

My magazine and website will be closely linked to demonstrate the digitally convergent nature of modern media production. The website will feature additional content that complements the magazine, such as exclusive behind-the-scenes footage of Micah and the R&B/Hip-Hop duo, teaser videos like a ‘Fashion in Harmony’ video on the ‘Latest’ page , and music previews like Kunzz’s promotional video for his song, also on the latest page. I will also include a giveaway for Micah, encouraging readers to visit the website and engage with the brand further. I have also incorporated a challenge in first issue that links directly to the social media platforms. The use of social media integration on the website (such as links to Instagram, Spotify, and YouTube) will allow the audience to interact with the artists and the magazine beyond the printed format, reinforcing cross-platform engagement. I have also added intertextuality within the website, for example, when clicking the album covers on the ‘Latest’ page, I have included a well known hip hop song.

First Draft of Front Cover

First Draft of Magazine No.1

Feedback :

30/09/24
  • Make the subject more big
  • Less wordy sell lines
  • Masthead and Picture are nice
  • Loose some words on the pull quote - make it more enigmatic
  • The font is nice and works well together

Pitch feedback

Feedback:
I need to add intertextuality in my NEA. I can do this by referencing famous artists, or I can add intertextuality in the website; e.g album covers, or past nostalgic music.
